INVESTIGATION: Corruption inside the Kwara State General Hospital, Ilorin

Several allegations of corruption and duty negligence have been reported of the Kwara state general hospital in Ilorin. From not attending to patient promptly to extortion and several other illegal activities.

However, a recent Investigation by Waddata Communication project Journalist uncovered how the laboratory attendants carried out medical tests without channeling payment through the KwIRS but rather request patients to pay by cash as against the normal payment procedure in state government agencies.

It is also discovered that blood from regular donors are sold out instead of using it for the intended charity purpose.

A victim, who pleaded anonymity recounted the experience of how she donated two pant of blood for her brother who was on sick bed at the same General Hospital but was later sold out.

“Initially, I was ask to get a donor that will give us three pant of blood for my brother who is on sick bay. I donated two pant of blood but was not use for it purpose and effort to get back the money or the blood prooved abortive as the lab technicians gave me series of excuse that there is not light to preserve them, she disclosed.”

An alleged illegally conducted medical test

However, the bureau director in charge of state owned hospitals, Mr Saad Aluko while reacting to the allegation said he’s aware that some patients most time narrate their awful experience but steps are underway to find a lasting solution to those corrupt and illegal activities by the lab attendant.

“I’m aware that our people at the lab use to conduct series of blood test without paying the money collected for the test to the right account,” Aluko said.

It was further uncovered that most of these atrocities are perpetuated at the hospital’s laboratory.
