Insecurity: NSCDC commences 24-hour surveillance in Kwara

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has launched a round-the-clock surveillance operation across Kwara State, with particular emphasis on Ilorin metropolis and the protection of critical national assets.

The Kwara State Commandant of the corps, Bala Bawa Bodinga, disclosed this on Thursday in Ilorin shortly after formally assuming office. He said the initiative is aimed at strengthening public safety and restoring confidence in the state’s security framework.

According to Bodinga, his deployment followed directives from the Commandant-General of the corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to reinforce operational effectiveness and ensure tighter protection of infrastructure and public spaces.

“I was directed by the Commandant-General to take charge of operations here and ensure that critical national assets and infrastructure are adequately protected,” he stated.

The commandant explained that the new security blueprint under his leadership would be intelligence-driven, blending visible patrols with discreet operational strategies.

“Not all security tactics, measures and plans are meant to be disclosed. But by the grace of God, all necessary mechanisms have been put in place to protect critical national assets and infrastructure in Kwara State, as well as lives and property,” he said.

Bodinga stressed that surveillance operations within Ilorin metropolis have become continuous, particularly during nighttime.

“We have commenced 24-hour surveillance within Ilorin metropolis. You can move around Ilorin at night and you will find our officers maintaining constant surveillance. There has not been a single night without patrol since I assumed duty,” he emphasised.

Addressing recent security concerns in Kaiama and other parts of the state, the NSCDC boss confirmed that additional personnel had been deployed to stabilise the area.

“We have sent more men to Kaiama and the situation there is under control,” he assured.
He also announced enhanced security arrangements for religious gatherings across the state.

“All Jumu’ah prayers on Fridays must have adequate security coverage. The same arrangement applies to churches during Sunday services and other major gatherings. Worship centres must be safe for our people,” he declared.
On inter-agency cooperation, Bodinga revealed that collaboration with other security outfits would be central to his administration.

“I am already in contact with heads of other security agencies in the state to strengthen intelligence sharing and joint operations,” he said.

Highlighting manpower development, the commandant underscored the importance of continuous professional training for officers.

“As someone trained in intelligence and operations, I understand the importance of continuous training. Some of these trainings cannot be announced publicly, but our officers will be well trained technically and professionally for effective service delivery,” he added.

Bodinga further disclosed that modalities for VIP protection had been activated across the state.

“All modalities for VIP protection have been activated. We are ready to respond to requests, but we ask for time to fully deploy our resources,” he stated.

Reaffirming his commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the commandant called on residents to support security agencies with credible information.

“With the support of other security agencies and th e people of Kwara State, we will deliver improved security. Give us a little time, and you will see a new face of security in this state,” he assured.

Bodinga officially assumed duty as Kwara State NSCDC Commandant on Monday, February 16, 2026, following a strategic reshuffle approved by the Commandant-General. He succeeds Dr Umar J.G. Mohammed, who served in the position for about two years.
