Insecurity: Nigeria will not bow to fear, terror, or treachery – Tinubu warns
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria “will not bow—not to fear, not to terror, and not to treachery.”
The president made this known, while reacting to the ongoing terrorist and bandit attacks primarily affecting the North-Central and Northeast regions, where recent violence in Plateau and Benue States has resulted in numerous fatalities and widespread displacement.
During a morale-boosting visit to frontline troops in Katsina State, Tinubu underscored that both domestic collaborators and foreign agents seeking to destabilize the nation would ultimately fail.
He stated, “To those who seek to destabilise our nation, be they domestic collaborators or foreign agents—hear this: Nigeria will not bow.”
The President’s remarks followed claims by Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia, who suggested that foreign mercenaries have been involved in assaults on communities within the state, reflecting growing concerns about the international dimensions of insecurity plaguing the region.
Acknowledging the valiant efforts of the Armed Forces, Tinubu referred to them as the “shield of Nigeria,” emphasizing their sacrifices against the continuous threats of violence. “You are the brave sons and daughters who stand between our people and the forces of terror. Every inch of ground you hold, every terrorist you neutralise, and every community you secure is a victory for justice, freedom, and the future of our children,” he expressed.
He framed the ongoing battle against insecurity as not just a territorial struggle but as “a battle for the soul of Nigeria.” The President commended the military for their resilience and patriotism, which he described as “the highest form,” acknowledging their commitment to serve without expectation of reward.
Asserting that this moment is crucial in Nigeria’s history, Tinubu urged the troops, “Nigerians are counting on us and on you to end this menace and reclaim every inch of our territory.” He assured them that their welfare was a priority for his administration, with plans for improvements in housing, healthcare, insurance, and prompt payment of allowances already in motion.
“We are taking bold steps to equip you with advanced equipment, superior intelligence, and robust logistical support not only to defend this nation but to dominate and defeat every adversary,” he stated.
Tinubu concluded his address by rallying the troops, asking them to affirm their readiness and commitment to ending insecurity in Nigeria. “Let me hear you loudly: Are you ready? Are you committed to ending this insecurity once and for all? Let your resolve echo through every valley and forest,” he urged.
The President reaffirmed his unwavering support for the Armed Forces, pledging to match their courage with necessary investments and leadership. “You, the Nigerian military, are the spearhead of this fight. With your valour and discipline, peace shall prevail,” he concluded.
