Insecurity: Kwara Police arrest arms courier, recover live ammunition

The operatives of the Kwara state Police Command have arrested an arms courier along Gbugbu/Patigi road in Kwara state.

The development came less than 24hours after a medical doctor was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services for transporting medical supplies from Sokoto State to kidnapping gangs operating in Kwara State.

It was gathered that the suspected arms courier was arrested by Police patrol team attached to the Lafiaji Area Command in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara state in the early hours of Friday and recovered 100 rounds of live AK47 live ammunition.

The Police at about 07:30 hrs on Friday during a routine stop and search operation along Gbugbu/Patigi road intercepted a Toyota Corolla with registration EP 434 ABC, containing 100 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition concealed among personal effects, along with various charms.

The vehicle driven by Owolaranfe Rafiu had four other occupants; Musa Mohammed, Adam Alhaji Lawal, and Musa Shaibu have all been arrested.

A coordinated effort is underway to identify and apprehend the intended receiver of the ammunition. The suspects remain in custody.
