Insecurity: Kwara moves to tighten verification of auctioneers

The Kwara State Government has said it will strengthen the verification and certification of persons operating as auctioneers in the state, citing the prevailing security situation in the country and the need to ensure that only qualified and duly recognised practitioners are allowed to operate.

The state Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, disclosed this when the executive members of the Nigeria Association of Auctioneers, Kwara State Chapter, paid her a courtesy visit in Ilorin.

Olukoju said the state government was considering reforms to the process of obtaining auctioneer certificates as part of efforts to improve professionalism and regulate the practice.

She said strengthening the certification process would help protect the integrity of the profession and give members of the public greater confidence when engaging auctioneers.

The commissioner added that the security challenges across the country had made it necessary for the government to improve the process of identifying and verifying persons carrying out auctioneering activities.

According to her, only duly recognised and qualified practitioners should be authorised to operate as auctioneers in the state.

Olukoju assured the association of the government’s continued support and collaboration towards strengthening and repositioning the profession in Kwara.

She added that the state government remained open to constructive engagements and partnerships that would contribute to the growth and effective regulation of professional bodies.

Earlier, the President of the Nigeria Association of Auctioneers, Kwara State Chapter, Abdulwahab Adeshina, commended the state government for its support and expressed the association’s readiness to work with the government to improve the practice of auctioneering in the state.
