INEC Chairman presents certificates of return to elected Senators
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given Certificates of Return to senatorial candidates who emerged winners in the just concluded senatorial elections of the February 25.
The Informant247 recalls that the senatorial elections took place across the federation on Saturday February 25.
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, presented certificates of return to them at the National Collation Centre (the International Conference Centre) in Abuja.
The candidates for the seats of the House of Representatives are to receive their certificates of return at the same venue on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.
According to the INEC boss,
APC : 57 Senate seats;
PDP, 29;
LP, 6; SDP, 2;
NNPP, 2;
YPP, 1; and
APGA, 1.
According to the INEC chief, for the House of Representatives:
APC : 162 seats;
PDP, 102;
LP, 34;
NNPP, 18;
APGA, 4;
ADC, 2;
SDP, 2;
YPP, 1
The Informant247 earlier reported that the INEC revealed that the candidates who were voted into the Senate and House of Representatives during the February 25, 2023 presidential and national assembly elections would receive receive their certificates on March 7, and 8.
This resolution was reached at a meeting between the Chairman of the electoral commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, and the Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs, on Saturday, March 4, 2023.
The senators would receive theirs on March 7 while lawmakers in the House of Representatives would receive theirs on March 8.
He also said victors of 423 legislative seats had been announced and that supplementary elections were to take place in 46 constituencies.
It was gathered that 98 out of the 109 senators-elect have been announced while 325 out of the 360 House of Representatives members-elect have been declared winners.
“Senators/House of Reps-elect to receive certificates on 7th, 8th March respectively,” the INEC chairman said.
