Imo gears up for enhanced security, vibrant nightlife amid armed robberies, kidnappings

Imo State is on the brink of a transformation as the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with various security agencies, promises to revitalize security and nightlife in the region.

Brig.-Gen. Usman Lawal, Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade, made this commitment during the official launch of the Joint Night Patrol Task Force in Owerri.

In attendance at the inauguration were top commanders and heads of security agencies in Imo, highlighting the unified effort to address the rising crime rates within Owerri Metropolis.

Brig.-Gen. Lawal emphasized that the Joint Night Patrol Teams would harness the expertise and dedication of personnel from various security agencies, including soldiers, ratings, airmen, and police officers, to safeguard the lives and property of Imo residents.

Maintaining professionalism and earning the trust of the local population were key principles stressed by Brig.-Gen. Lawal.

He cautioned that any form of misconduct or indiscipline within the patrol teams would not be tolerated.

Brig.-Gen. Lawal added that the decision to secure the state’s capital city gains particular importance due to the recent surge in armed robberies, kidnappings, and related crimes, especially during the night.

This initiative is even more crucial as the region enters a season of political activities and campaigns leading up to the upcoming gubernatorial election on November 11.

Governor Hope Uzodimma, represented by Dr. Ugorji Okechukwu Ugorji, the Commissioner for Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs, expressed his approval of the collaborative efforts of the security agencies in establishing the Joint Night Patrol Task Force.

He credited the professionalism exhibited by these agencies for the prevailing peace and security enjoyed by the people of Imo State. This initiative holds the promise of not only ensuring safety but also reinvigorating the nightlife of the vibrant state.
