Ilorin looting: Kwara govt vows to prosecute perpetrators
The Kwara State Government has vowed to arraign hoodlums arrested for looting businesses in Ilorin on stealing and armed robbery charges.
This was made known in a statement issued by the State Attorney General, Ayinla Salmon Jawondo, on Monday, following the wanton looting and destruction of public and private businesses in the state capital on Friday by suspected hoodlums.
The statement read partly, “I commend the swift action of the security agencies, most importantly the Nigerian Police Force for forestalling further looting and damage to properties and for the arrests of offenders made so far. The office of the Attorney General will ensure that the perpetrators of these bare face stealing, armed robberies and associated criminalities face the full wrath of law.
“I commiserate with owners of private businesses and properties/companies whose businesses and properties were affected by these mindless lootings and destruction. While the Governor of Kwara State has promised to mitigate the effects of these unfortunate and “un-Kwaran” criminalities, it is our prayer that God in His infinite mercies will give the victims succor and the fortitude to move forward from the ugly incident and sustain more thriving businesses.
“I enjoin all residents of the State to be law-abiding and avoid criminal elements. This is a good time to act in unity and ensure we don’t screen offenders, so that we do not become ones ourselves. Be vigilant and report anyone suspected to have participated in the looting and destruction.”
