Ilorin Emir hails Kwara govt for making healthcare a priority

The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, has commended the Kwara State Government for its commitment to improving healthcare services across the state.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Health, Press Secretary, Falade Gbenga, said the campaign officially kicked off today at the Emir of Ilorin’s Palace, where the state’s royal fathers were briefed on the initiative.

Speaking during a sensitization briefing at his palace on the nationwide Project 10 Million medical outreach, the Emir praised the government’s efforts in making healthcare accessible and free for residents. He lauded the initiative, which focuses on screening for hypertension, diabetes, and other conditions, as part of a broader push for better public health.

The Emir highlighted the significance of such health interventions, noting that they demonstrate the government’s dedication to the well-being of the people. He offered prayers for the success of the program, which is being led by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaja Afusat Ibrahim.

Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, the Commissioner for Health, addressed the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, and his council, emphasizing the importance of the outreach, which aims to provide comprehensive health screenings to all citizens of Kwara State. With a focus on early detection, the outreach will screen participants for hypertension and diabetes, offering them the opportunity to receive further medical treatment if needed.

“Many people live with silent killers like hypertension and diabetes without knowing. This outreach is critical because it will help us detect these conditions early and provide timely interventions,” Dr. El-Imam explained, underscoring the life-saving potential of Project 10 Million.

The health initiative is part of a broader series of interventions rolled out by the Kwara State Government to improve access to healthcare for its citizens. These efforts have included free medical and surgical outreaches across all local government areas in the state. Dr. El-Imam also announced that a second phase of the program, focused on cancer screening and treatment, will soon be launched, while the current phase is specifically dedicated to hypertension and blood sugar level testing.

The briefing was attended by members of the Emir’s council, traditional rulers from across the state, and senior staff from the Ministry of Health, all of whom pledged to support the success of the outreach.

The medical outreach will continue across all local government areas in the state, ensuring that no community is left behind in this mission to build a healthier Kwara State.
