Ilorin East Council spends N33m on renovation of controversial Awodi PHC

The Ilorin East Local Government spent N33.6 million on the renovation of the Awodi Primary Health Care Centre, a facility recently at the centre of a political controversy involving the council chairman and Senator Saliu Mustapha.

Project details obtained by The Informant247 show that the renovation was captured as “Construction of Health Centre, Awodi”, with project code 12310604 – Gambari I, at a cost of N33,661,502.00.

The N33 million expenditure came after the council chairman, Mallam Lukman Agbelere, rejected a N200 million federal government intervention meant for the renovation and equipping of the same health facility.

Speaking at a public programme in 2025, Agbelere said he declined to approve the project because Senator Mustapha, who facilitated the it, was “not on good terms” with the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Findings showed that the federal intervention, facilitated through the 2025 Appropriation Act, was expected to cover comprehensive renovation and equipping of the hospital at an estimated cost of N200 million.

The council chairman had maintained that the local government had commenced renovation work on the facility using its own funds.
