“I’ll not help you put your house in order” – Tinubu mocks opposition parties amid defections

President Bola Tinubu has criticized opposition parties for their ongoing internal crises, urging them to take responsibility for their shortcomings instead of blaming the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his Democracy Day address to the National Assembly on Thursday, Tinubu pointed out the turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), which have experienced a significant loss of members to the APC. He expressed his views on their inability to manage their affairs effectively.

“Political parties fearful of members leaving may be better served by examining their internal processes and affairs rather than fearfully conjuring up demons that do not exist,” he remarked. “I would say try your best to put your house in order. I will not help you do so. It is, indeed, a pleasure to witness you in such disarray.”

Furthermore, Tinubu dismissed allegations that the APC aims to establish a one-party state. “At no time in the past, nor any instance in the present, and at no future juncture shall I view the notion of a one-party state as good for Nigeria,” he stated emphatically.

He reiterated the importance of a multiparty system, asserting, “We must welcome and accept the diversity and number of political parties just as we welcome and embrace the diversity of our population.”

Tinubu, however, urged for continued dialogue and political competition, warning that the APC would be committing “political malpractice” if it rejected those who wish to join its ranks.
