I’ll lead PDP campaign in Rivers by 2027 – Nyesom Wike
In a bold declaration, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced his intention to spearhead the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign for the 2027 presidential election. Wike made this statement during a media parley in Abuja, addressing ongoing accusations regarding his loyalty to the party while serving in the cabinet of President Bola Tinubu.
“I am still in PDP. I worked hard for the party,” Wike asserted confidently. He challenged his critics by stating, “I have not seen anybody who has the guts to tell me, ‘Wike, you are not a member of the party.’ No one will take me from the party. I’m a member. In fact, I’ll lead the PDP campaign in Rivers by 2027.”
His comments arise against a backdrop of tension within the PDP, where some party members have accused him of betrayal due to his ongoing collaboration with the opposition government.
Wike expressed his satisfaction in taking a stand against powerful interests, highlighting his role as FCT Minister. “Look at what we are doing differently… It makes me happy… If you don’t do the right thing, too bad. I don’t care,” he commented.
Refuting any personal conflict with Governor Siminalayi Fubara amidst the political crisis in Rivers State, Wike remarked, “I don’t have any crisis with Fubara. I am not the president who declared the state of emergency. If Mr. President had called me that time, I wouldn’t have agreed on a state of emergency.”
