Ijesa Monarch’s coronation: Atiku visits Aregbesola in Osun

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has paid a courtesy visit to Rauf Aregbesola, the immediate-past Interior Minister and former governor of Osun State, at his country home in Ilesa.

The visit occurred just hours before the coronation of the 49th Owa Obokun and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup.

This informal gathering attracted notable political figures from the state and beyond, fueling political speculation as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general election.

In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Atiku shared a video of himself alongside former Vice President Namadi Sambo, enjoying breakfast with Aregbesola.

“Breakfast time at the residence of former Governor of Osun State, Engr Rauf Aregbesola,” he captioned the video.

The meeting included prominent members of the Aregbesola political camp, such as former Osun APC Chairman Lowo Adebiyi, Chairman of Omoluabi Progressives Alhaji Azeez Adesiji, former Secretary to the State Government Moshood Adeoti, and former Speaker of the State House of Assembly Najeem Salaam. Political observers interpreted the presence of two former Vice Presidents and a key Osun political figure as a significant alignment ahead of the upcoming elections.

Furthermore, the Osun State High Court in Ilesa declined to pause the coronation ceremony, allowing the event to proceed as planned on Friday. The coronation took place at the Obokungbusi Hall in Ilesa, with a reception scheduled at the Ilesa Grammar School premises.

Earlier, Atiku had shared his arrival at Akure Airport in Ondo State, stating: “I was warmly received by stakeholders on arrival at the Akure Airport in Ondo State, ahead of the coronation of the 49th HRH Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup today.”
