In a move aimed at upholding discipline, maintaining regimented culture, and preserving the authority of the Nigeria Police Force, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced significant changes in leadership.
Four Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) have been compulsorily retired, and fresh appointments have been made.
The retired DIGs are Dan-Mallam Mohammed, Moses Ambakina Jitiboh, Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa, and Adeleke Adeyinka Bode.
The Police Service Commission expressed the expectation that these senior officers, who were in higher ranks before the appointment of the acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, would voluntarily retire or choose to leave the force.
As no such applications were received, the PSC made the decision to compulsorily retire them to ensure discipline and avoid status reversal that undermines the authority of the Inspector General.
The Commission cited its statutory powers and constitutional provisions as the basis for this action. The four former DIGs are mandated to proceed on compulsory retirement from Friday, August 25, 2023.
The PSC expressed appreciation for their contributions to peace and security in the country.
Concurrently, the Commission also approved the elevation of four Assistant Inspectors General of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspectors General of Police.
“These appointments are subject to ratification by the Commission’s Board and are intended to replace the retired DIGs. The new appointees are Ibrahim Sani Ka’oje, Daniel Sokari-Pedro, Ayuba Ekpeji, and Usman Nagogo.”
According to the Commission, these new DIGs were selected based on their respective geopolitical regions, without pending disciplinary matters or significant health impairments.
The Commission congratulated the newly appointed DIGs and expressed optimism that their elevation will bring increased value and energy to the Nigeria Police Force’s efforts in fulfilling its mandate.
