The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has said that anyone found with invalid Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Identity Card would be detained and prosecuted.
The police boss affirmed that all the PCRC ID cards in town were invalid starting in December 2022.
The spokesperson of the police force, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this revelation in a statement released on Saturday.
He said the police chief gave the order to ensure sanitisation and to cleanse the operations of the PCRC.
The police boss ordered that new PCRC ID cards should be issued to the concerned and give room for the conduct of membership screening across all quarters.
The IGP also ordered all eligible members of the “PCRC nationwide to contact the offices of the various Zonal, Command, and Formations PCRC Chairmen as well as the Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) of their Zones, Commands, and Formations respectively to obtain new forms for processing the newly approved ID Card”.
The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) was set up in 1984.
The main goal of the committee is to serve as links or intermediaries between the police force and local communities.
