Ighalo says hasn’t decided on Super Eagles return

Striker Odion Ighalo says he is yet to make a decision on his return to the Super Eagles.

“They have been in contact with me about the possibility of coming back, Amaju and coach,” the former Manchester United star told ESPN. “I don’t know. I have not said yes or no. I haven’t made any decision concerning the national team.”

The President of the Nigerian Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, had hinted that Ighalo may return two years after he retired from the national team.

Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick, in a recent Instagram post, hinted that talks were already underway for Ighalo to return to the national team.

“I had a long conversation with Odion Ighalo, personally I believe we need experience in our attack to combine with our energetically youthful Osinmeh, Onuachu, Kelechi et al. Odion’s body language is very positive,” Pinnick said.

Also, Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, said he had included Al Shabab striker, Odion Ighalo, in his 40-man provisional list for next month’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde.

The Franco-German gaffer is a huge admirer of the former Manchester United man, who emerged top scorer at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, before calling time on international football.

Ighalo, who scored 16 goals in 35 appearances between 2015 and 2019 for the Eagles, has been in superb form for his club, bagging eight goals in nine league games.

He was listed in the Saudi League’s Team of The Week for their week nine games.
