The presidential candidate of the Labour Party LP Peter Obi has falsified the claim that he was arrested and detained at an airport in London, United Kingdom UK.
The Informant247 recalls that there were speculations that Obi was arrested, detained and humiliated at an airport in London by the operatives of the immigration service over an issue of impersonation.
Obi said the operatives of the immigration service only conducted a routine check on him.
This came as someone had reportedly used his personality to commit crime in London.
He said he was treated with utmost regards and honour when he passed through the checking process which took him less than 20 minutes.
This was against the earlier speculations that the former Governor of Anambra State was maltreated at the airport.
He said, “I was stopped for a routine immigration check in the UK because it appears that my identity was duplicated by someone. I was never arrested. I was treated with due respect and walked through the VIP process. Everything lasted less than 20 minutes.”
I collect N942,000 as monthly salary, no allowance — Labour minister Ngige
The minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige has disclosed the sum of money he receives as salary after the deduction of taxes.
Ngige said he receives the sum of nine hundred and forty two thousand naira, N942,000 every month after the deduction of taxes.
He said he does not collect any allowance except when he’s on official trips.
“My salary is N942,000 a month. That is my salary with My PA. Gross total after-tax — my feeding, my transport, the transport of one PA, the salary of my gardener, my cook,” the labour minister said.
“They are all consolidated. After huge taxation, they paid me N942,000. Every minister you see, that is what you will see. The special advisers get around that amount too.
“The allowances are not anything. We don’t have any allowances except if you travel, you can get duty tour allowance, like every other public officer.”
He added that the federal government has looked into the allowances which ministers, permanent secretaries and others receive when they are on trips.
“It was reviewed to N100,000 for a minister, and I think ministers of states, N75,000; permanent secretaries, N70,000, and down the line. Level one, everybody else’s own was reviewed, not only our own,” he said.
He said the outgoing administration of President Muhammadu Buhari would not augment worker’s salaries before it hands over on May 29.
He said the incoming government to be led by the president elect Senator Bola Tinubu would look into issues concerning workers salaries.
“I’m sure that the incoming government of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will tow the same line and do the necessary fixing. He is a finance manager. He managed the finances of Lagos very well. He paid the salaries that needed to be paid and even add the extra payment for the judicial workers in Lagos. I have no fear about that at all,” Ngige said.
“The point is that job creation is a cross-cutting thing. It is not only for the public sector to do,” he said.
“Everybody has it in mind that it is the government that creates jobs. If we don’t work in a federal ministry or government agency, we have not got a job. No, the private sector is there.”
