‘How former NAKSS president ran away with 3 vehicles, N5m, other union assets’

Former National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) President Abdullahi Wokili has been accused of making off with association properties, including three buses, four laptops, and the sum of N5 million.

The incumbent President, Habeebullah Arewa, disclosed this in an interview with The Informant247 in Ilorin, the state capital, on Friday.

Wokili, who was previously reported arrested by security operatives on allegations of money laundering and theft, reportedly admitted to selling some of the properties.

According to the president, he said, “In our petition, we stated that he absconded with three association buses, four laptops and a sum of N5 million.”

“After he was arrested, he confessed that he had sold one of the buses, which his Senate President is aware of. He also claimed to have given another bus to a former association president, Atunluse, who denied this in his presence. Additionally, he claimed that he had an accident with the third bus, resulting in it being burnt beyond repair.”

Addressing the issue of the laptops, Arewa continued, “He claimed that some individuals received five laptops from him, but when these individuals were questioned at the NSCDC office, they denied receiving any laptops. Efforts are now underway to recover the remaining laptops.”

Arewa further clarified that Wokili alleged that certain individuals received amounts ranging from N2 million to N1 million from the money he allegedly embezzled, but all the accused individuals denied receiving any money during interrogations.

“After a thorough investigation, we discovered that all of Wokili’s claims were baseless. He has sold all the vehicles, but he has been given until Monday to return all the assets he accumulated for himself,” the president said.

What Had Happened

Wokili’s apprehension followed allegations of embezzlement of association funds and properties shortly after a new executive was elected in early November last year. Attempts to recover the funds and other assets, including the union’s vehicle, from Wokili have so far been unsuccessful.

Following months of manhunt, officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) eventually apprehended Wokili at his Tsonga village on Tuesday, according to sources. He was detained at the NSCDC headquarters in Ilorin and is expected to face charges in court soon.
