House of Reps minority caucus condemns murders of 16 hunters in Edo

The House of Representatives minority caucus has condemned the senseless killings of 16 hunters in Uromi, Edo State, and called on the relevant authorities to ensure justice for the victims.

The victims, traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano for Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, were mistaken for kidnappers due to the traditional hunting tools they carried and were subsequently lynched.

In a statement signed by minority leader Kingsley Chinda on behalf of the caucus, the lawmakers expressed their shock and grief over the brutal murder of these individuals, primarily northerners, by a gang of lawless anarchists in Edo State.

The caucus stated, “We find such brutal killings of innocent Nigerians in any part of the country by lawless mobs very reprehensible. If allowed to fester without being put in check by responsible organs of the federal government, such actions could threaten the peace and unity of the country.”

They condemned the violent attack on the northern travelers, which resulted in their gruesome deaths, and implored all Nigerians to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing the importance of relying on lawful authorities for assistance in troubling situations.

The minority caucus also called on President Tinubu to direct security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly and bring those involved to justice to prevent future occurrences. They urged that adequate compensation be provided to the families affected by this tragedy.

The lawmakers appealed for calm, urging all Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding while allowing the federal and state governments to address the situation in the interest of justice.

They extended their heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, assuring them and all Nigerians of their vigilance in seeking justice until it is achieved.
