Hoodlums kill DPO, 2 others in fresh Anambra attack
Some gunmen on Monday attacked the Isiowulu Police station, Awada, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, taking the life of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and 2 other persons.
The gunmen reportedly invaded the facility of the police in their large numbers and went into a gun battle with the police.
The police with the assistance of the military officers reportedly staged a counter attack and took the lives of 3 hoodlums during the attack.
It was gathered that the DPO, an inspector, a newly employed constable fell victims of the attack.
A source that witnessed the scenario said the hoodlums shot sporadically as they proceeded in the direction of the police station — the gunshots according to report lingered for several hours.
The source revealed that, “In the early hours of today, these hoodlums made another deadly attempt to burn down Isiowulu Police station, Awada , near Obosi, Anambra State.
“The hoodlums were repelled by gallant security personnel with three members of the gang taken down after a hot gunfire.”
2 AK-47 rifles and the vehicles used for the operation were recovered from them.
Another source revealed that, “It was terrible last night for people living close to the station, it was as if war had come close to us. Gunshots from different directions.
“This morning, I inquired and learnt that the gunmen had invaded the station, set some part of the station on fire, killed three policemen.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the police command in the state, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, were not successful at the time of filing this report.
The Informant247 recalls that 5 gunmen and a police officer lost their lives on Sunday morning following a gun battle which occurred in a police station Nkwelle Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
