Hon. Mukaila Jimoh rejects purported APC Omupo Constituency primary result, insists due process must prevail

An aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Omupo State Constituency, Hon. Mukaila Jimoh Adigun, has rejected claims surrounding the outcome of the party’s primary election in the area, describing attempts to declare Hon. Lawal Sulaimon Duduyemi as the APC’s candidate for Omupo constituency as contrary to the provisions of the party’s constitution and established electoral guidelines.

In a statement issued by his campaign organization on Friday in Ilorin, Hon. Mukaila said the controversy currently trailing the primary election in Omupo State Constituency was avoidable, recalling that prior to the primary exercise, some party stakeholders in the state constituency had formally petitioned the APC leadership over what they described as the dual role played by Hon. Lawal Sulaimon Duduyemi in the build-up to the primaries.

According to the statement, the petition against Hon. Lawal Sulaimon Duduyemi had drawn the attention of the party hierarchy to issues bordering on eligibility and conflict of interest, urging the APC to ensure that only qualified aspirants participated in the contest in line with the party’s constitution.

Hon. Mukaila maintained that the dual role played by Hon. Lawal Sulaimon Duduyemi as the incumbent APC State Youth Leader and aspirant for the Omupo constituency cannot, by any stretch of legal or political reasoning, translate into making him the winner of the primary election.

“It is therefore misleading for anyone to suggest that a candidate whose eligibility had been challenged before the exercise and whose participation has become the subject of party scrutiny automatically emerged as the winner of the primary,” the statement partly reads.

Hon. Mukaila further dismissed attempts by some individuals and groups to drag his name into media campaigns aimed at legitimising what he described as a “flawed process,” stressing that the purported results circulating online remains within the jurisdiction of the party’s leadership.

While affirming his loyalty to the APC and the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the former legislator urged party members in Omupo constituency to remain calm and allow the leadership of the party to determine the issues arising from the primary in accordance with its constitution and internal mechanisms.

“Our principal Hon. Mukaila’s political journey, spanning years of active grassroots engagement, legislative experience and sustained contribution to party development, has positioned him as one of the most formidable political figures in Omupo Constituency.

“His widespread acceptance across the constituency, accessibility to the people and proven record of public service have continued to make him a candidate capable of delivering victory for the APC in the 2027 general election.

“Hon. Mukaila Jimoh Adigun remains focused on strengthening the APC and ensuring that the party fields a candidate whose emergence reflects transparency, fairness and due process. His concern has never been about personal ambition but about protecting the integrity of the party and preserving members’ confidence in its democratic processes,” the statement further added.

It therefore reaffirmed Hon. Mukaila’s confidence in the APC leadership and expressed optimism that justice, fairness and the party’s constitution would ultimately prevail in the interest of the party and the people of Omupo State Constituency.

The statement, therefore, called on party faithful and supporters to disregard what it described as premature victory claims and media propaganda capable of overheating the political atmosphere, stressing that only the appropriate organs of the APC have the authority to determine the party’s authentic candidate after resolving all pending issues arising from the primary exercise.
