Herbalist, accomplice dupe businessman of N28m in Kwara

For allegedly conspiring with one Baba Onikeke to dupe Shittu Bisiriyu to the tune of N28million, Olayinka Monjo of Araromi, Oko Olowo area, Ilorin, is currently cooling his heels at the Oke-Kura Correctional Service Centre.

He was dragged before an Ilorin magistrate court, presided over by Magistrate Muhammed Ibrahim.

He was charged for the offences of criminal conspiracy, criminal charm, criminal breach of trust, cheating, putting the fear of injury in other to commit extortion contrary to sections 96, 217, 320, 293, 167, of the penal code punishable under sections 97, 217, 217, 320, 293, 168 of penal code and obtaining property by false pretence with the intention to defraud.

Police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that the complainant met the defendant (Monjo), for spiritual assistant that will boost his business.

The report added that Monjo directed him to Onikeke, (now at large) who went further to dupe the complainant of the said money in the name of helping to do spiritual cleansing that will boost his business.

He allegedly obtained the money from the complainant (Basiriyu) from November 2019 to September 2020.

The prosecutor from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Barrister Ajide Kehinde, in his submission, urged the court to remand the defendant pending when the principal suspect (Onikeke) who is at large is arrested.

Magistrate Ibrahim, in his ruling, ceded to the submission of the prosecutor, ordering that Onikeke’s shrine, where he allegedly perpetrated fraudulent acts be sealed up.

The court further issued a bench warrant against Onikeke while the matter was adjourned to 27th January 2021.
