Gunmen kill two,abduct shop owner in Kwara community attack

Panic and grief have gripped the Gbugbu community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State following a fresh attack by armed bandits on Sunday evening.

Recall that The Informant247 earlier reported the attack on Sunday evening, with no confirmation of casualties or possible abductions.

Reports have now emerged that the assault reportedly occurred around 7:45 p.m., with heavy gunfire heard across multiple parts of the community.

Residents said the attackers fired shots in nearly four corners of the town, forcing people to flee their homes for safety.

The Community source who spoke with NupekoTv-Lafiagi, confirmed that a Dukawa man was confirmed dead in the incident, while a young girl sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital. Sources say she remains in critical condition.

In addition, a provision shop owner identified as Rilwan Bello, whose shop is located beside the Ezigbo Store, was reportedly abducted during the attack. His sales boy was shot dead at the scene.

Community members also confirmed that another body was later discovered, raising fears that the casualty figure could rise further.

The latest violence has intensified concerns over security in Gbugbu and surrounding areas, as residents call on authorities to take swift action to restore peace and prevent further attacks.

Authorities have also yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. The report of attack is coming few days after the launching of Military operation codenamed ‘Operation Savannah Shield’ by the federal govenrment.

The operation, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following recent deadly attacks in Woro, Kaiama local government area of Kwara State and parts of Niger State, is a coordinated effort involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force to restore peace across Kwara and adjoining communities.

The joint task force was expected to cover the entire Kwara State and parts of Niger State, with a primary mandate to secure lives and property, neutralise terrorist and criminal elements, disrupt kidnapping networks, and restore law and order.
