Gunman kills UNIBEN student in his hostel
A student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), fondly addressed as ‘Mayor’ was gunned down around 9pm on Monday in one of the halls of residence of the institution.
The gruesome killing of the final year student of the federal owned university was suspected to be cult-related.
The deceased whose real identity has not been revealed was gunned down by an unknown gunman right in his room in Hall 3 of the Ugbowo campus of the school.
The reason for the killing has not been ascertained at the time of filing this report.
A source revealed that the incident was cult related.
The source, a student who addressed the press as an anonymous said the incident caused commotion in the school as students ran out of their beds and scampered for safety at night.
The Informant247 earlier reported that the authority of the University has condemned the incident.
The office of the Vice Chancellor has released a statement, imploring students to remain peaceful as security operatives are already working around the clock to the institue the arrest of the suspected criminal and bring him to book.
The VC gave an assurance to the students and their parents that the security agents within the school campus will prevent the reoccurrence of the incident.
