Group expresses concern over worsening insecurity in Kwara
A leading Pro Democracy group in Kwara State, Kwara Must Change, has expressed concern over the rising waves of kidnapping, and insecurity in part of Kwara State, saying the situation required locals to come up with security plans and arrangement in collaboration with security agencies.
In a statement by the Convener of the group, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, said the reported activities of kidnappers in some local governments is becoming worrisome, noting that the local government councils must take the lead in providing local intelligence, as well as mobilizing security apparatus.
According to Hamzat, Isin local government has recently demonstrated capacity and willingness to take the lead in securing its environment and he urges other local government areas, especially those in Kwara South to follow the same approach.
Hamzat explained that in this critical period in the country, security is everybody’s business and the local government councils, as well as the traditional rulers have a major role to play in ensuring their environment is free from dangerous elements.
The group therefore called on state government to provide all necessary support to local governments in their efforts to manage security situations in their locality.
