Gov’ship poll: Oyo traditional rulers endorse Makinde for second term
The Oyo State traditional rulers have declared their support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s re-election on Saturday.
Makinde, who is the incumbent governor and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is expectedly a top contender in the election and will be slugging it out with Sen. Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chief Bayo Adelabu of Accord, among others.
Oba Francis Alao, the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, on Thursday, stated that the traditional rulers in the five broad zones of the State have already expressed their support for the incumbent, adding that he was only affirming their position as the deputy chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
Oba Alao hinged the decision of the monarchs on Makinde’s performance, saying the Governor has “ shown credibility, character, good governance, brilliance, understanding of the economy, and has achieved infrastructural development.”
He added: “We cannot fold our arms because we are all stakeholders in Oyo State. Our support for Makinde is not on partisanship basis but on credibility. He should be re-elected based on his performance. He has done well and should be allowed to sustain the good work. I urge all Oyo State people to vote for him. He is an Omoluabi, an emerging leader.”
