Governor AbdulRazaq receives Leadership Excellence Award at NAKSS Kwara Poly 25th anniversary
The National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS), Kwara State Polytechnic Chapter, has presented a Leadership Excellence Award to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, during the association’s 25th Anniversary Celebration held on Friday, November 28, 2025.
According to the association, the Governor was honoured for his “unmatched commitment to youth development, educational advancement, and the overall progress of Kwara across critical sectors.”
NAKSS described the award as a recognition of reforms that have “positively changed the academic environment and empowered young people for a better future.”
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Student Affairs, Hon. Salami Wasiu Onidugbe, who received the award on his behalf, said the honour “reflects the administration’s resolve to keep investing in young people and repositioning the education sector for greater impact.”
The Silver Jubilee celebration, themed “25 Years of Student Unionism, Unity and Impact: Reflecting the Past, Inspiring the Future,” featured a series of activities celebrating student leadership and community service.
Representatives from the Ministry of Tertiary Education, NDLEA, EFCC, Nigeria Police Force, and the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) attended the event, alongside the Rector, management, staff, and students of the Polytechnic. Organisers said the turnout “shows the strength of the union’s partnerships and influence.”
A key highlight was an interactive talk show titled “Youth on the Right Track,” where experts from EFCC, NDLEA, NOA, the police, and the legal and entrepreneurial sectors engaged students on combating cybercrime and drug abuse. One of the panelists described the session as “a timely intervention for young people navigating modern challenges.”
The anniversary began on November 27 with the “Keep Kwara Polytechnic Clean Rally,” organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment.
NAKSS leadership said the rally “demonstrates the association’s commitment to environmental responsibility and community development.”
A novelty football match between students and alumni legends also held at the Kwara State Stadium. Participants said the match “strengthened bonds between generations of scholars and promoted healthy competition.”
Several personalities were also honoured for their contributions to education, community service, and youth empowerment.
According to the organisers, the awards were given to individuals “who have consistently supported the growth and development of young people in Kwara.”
Founded in 2000, NAKSS Kwara Poly Chapter reaffirmed its dedication to promoting academic excellence, student welfare, leadership development, and service to the community.
“Twenty-five years is only the beginning,” the association said. “Our commitment to students remains stronger than ever.”
