Gov Wike closes down Atiku campaign office in Rivers
The Rivers State government under Governor Nyesom Wike has closed down the campaign office of the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar in the state.
The presidential campaign committee of the party in the state has pointed accusing finger at the governor of the state.
The presidential campaign office situated at the Port Harcourt GRA was closed down on Friday, December 23, 2022.
The Informant247 recalls that the governor had a few weeks ago issued and signed Executive Order 22 prohibiting the site of campaign offices in residential places without the approval of the state government.
The party’s presidential campaign council in the state said it had sent its application for the approval to the state government but has not got any response for weeks.
The group, has frowned at the “act because it rubs off on our fundamental right to free expression of interest.”
The group said: “This egregious move by the Rivers State Government, seen in the prism of politics, tends to militarise our democracy and renders our dear state politically recessive when juxtaposed with other states in the country.”
