Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has appointed the Etsu Tsaragi, Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi Kpotwa Goshi II, as the Ameerul-Hajj for the state’s 2026 pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The appointment, announced on Wednesday, tasks the respected traditional ruler with leading Kwara’s contingent of pilgrims to the holy land and overseeing coordination with relevant authorities to ensure a smooth and hitch-free exercise.

The statement, signed by Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, said that as Ameerul-Hajj, Alhaji Goshi II will spearhead engagements with Saudi Arabian officials, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), and other stakeholders to safeguard the welfare, safety, and overall spiritual experience of pilgrims from Kwara State.

Preliminary activities for the 2026 Hajj have already commenced, setting the stage for the sacred journey. The main Hajj rites are scheduled to take place in the last week of May 2026, corresponding with Dhul-Hijjah 1447AH in the Islamic calendar.

The appointment underscores the state government’s commitment to ensuring proper planning and effective leadership for one of the most significant religious obligations for Muslims.
