Ghana’s president self-isolates after COVID-19 exposure
Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has proactively embarked on a 14-day self-isolation after people from his close circle tested positive for Covid-19.”
According to the country’s Information Minister, Kojo Nkrumah, on Saturday, July 4, he disclosed that the president’s decision is in consonance with COVID-19 protocol.
“On the advice of doctors, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is taking a fourteen (14) day precautionary self- isolation measure in compliance with Covid-19 protocols,” the statement said.
It further stated that the president has earlier tested negative to the virus.
Scores of public office holders and members of the president’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) have so far contracted COVID-19.
The health minister, Kwaku Manu, who was leading the COVID-19 effort and is noted for urging the Ghanaians to learn to live with the disease because it has come to stay, had earlier tested positive in June.
Last week, Deputy Minister for Trades and Industry, Carlos Ahenkorah, was subject of public backlash after overtly exposing fellow Ghanaians to the life-claiming pandemic and had to embark on a premature resignation.
He was reported to have flouted Covid-19 safety measures when he visited a registration centre meant for voters registration despite testing positive to COVID-19.
At present, the country’s coronavirus case is at 19,388 with 14,330 recoveries/discharges. A total of 117 citizens, including high-profile medical personnel and public officials , have died from the deadly infection.
