Free tickets for Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe announced by Akwa Ibom govt
The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced free tickets for the Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe, scheduled for Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
In a statement on Monday, the state’s Commissioner for Sports, Paul Bassey, revealed that Governor Umo Eno purchased all 30,000 tickets to rally support for the national team. “In line with his determination to mobilise support for the Super Eagles against the Warriors of Zimbabwe, Governor Umo Eno has purchased 30,000 tickets for fans ahead of the qualifying match,” Bassey stated.
Various distribution centres for the free tickets have been listed, including all radio stations, De Venus Bar and Restaurant on Stadium Road, Uyo Township Stadium, Ibom Plaza, and previous ticket sales outlets.
The commissioner emphasized that no tickets would be sold or distributed at the stadium and urged fans to secure theirs in advance. He warned that only ticket holders would be granted entry and advised fans to adhere to seating arrangements and security guidelines.
Additionally, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has pledged to distribute Super Eagles jerseys to the first 500 fans who obtain tickets for the game. NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi called on supporters to attend in large numbers and wear Nigeria’s national colors to create a vibrant atmosphere.
“We urge Nigerians to come out in large numbers to support the Super Eagles. The team needs our support. When we played Rwanda in Kigali, their stadium was filled to capacity. Let our people also come out and cheer the Eagles,” Sanusi said.
Currently, the Super Eagles sit fourth in their group with only six points from five matches, having secured their sole win of the campaign against Rwanda on Friday.
