No fewer than four persons have been killed in a boat mishap that occurred in the Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
According to a report, the boat which was conveying Rice Farmers from Ubbe District in the Nasarawa Eggon LGA, had a tragic accident while crossing a river at Hunki village of Awe LGA on Monday night, adding that the bodies of the deceased were transported back to the village for proper identification by their families.
The deceased were identified as Alkali Congo, Shedrack Dauda, Mashack Dauda, and Akolo Moses.
However, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Rahman Nasel, while confirming the incident to newsmen in Lafia on Tuesday, said the driver of the boat was still missing.
He said, “Confirmed. It happened yesterday; the farmers were returning from the farm, and the boat capsized.
“But with the support of local divers, four corpses were recovered, and one person was rescued.
“The person driving the boat is yet to be found and efforts are ongoing to find him.
“The Acting Commissioner of Police sympathised with the families of the deceased and prayed to God to console them specially.”
