Luis Rubiales, Former Spanish Football Association president, has expressed his intention to appeal against the three-year ban imposed on him by FIFA.
The FIFA announced on Monday that its Disciplinary Committee has banned Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Association (RFEF), from all football-related activities at national and international levels for three years, having found that he acted in breach of article 13 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
Rubiales kissed Jenni Hermoso on the lips during a trophy presentation ceremony following Spain’s 1-0 victory over England in the 2023 Women’s World Cup final on August 20.
Hermoso has said that the kiss was not consensual. saying she felt “disrespected” and “as an employee of the federation, no one protected me.”
Meanwhile, Rubiales has confirmed in a statement on social media that he will appeal against FIFA’s punishment.
“I am announcing as of now that I will be appealing… I will go as far as taking the case to the highest court to ensure that justice is done and that the truth comes out,” wrote Rubiales on X (formerly known as Twitter)
