Ibadan market fire

A fire incident on Saturday, January 14, 2023, razed 25 shops at Araromi Spare parts market, Agodi Gate, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The fire incident was confirmed by the General Manager of Oyo State Fire Service, Rev. Canon Yemi Akinyinka while granting a telephone interview on Saturday in Ibadan, the capital of the state.

The GM revealed that the fire service was alerted around 2.30 a.m. by one Mr Soliu.

He added that the personnel of the service were immediately mobilised to the affected scene to extinguish the inferno.

“The incident was caused by a careless burning of refuse. They refused to put off the burning refuse before leaving the shop and it escalated.

“The impression they gave us initially was that around 45 shops were affected but when we got there we discovered that 25 shops were affected by the fire incident,” Akinyinka told NAN.

He also explained that the operatives of the fire service were able to quench the fire around 5.00 a.m.

He further said no casualty was recorded in the incident.
