Fire guts sugar factory building in Bacita

A mortuary building attached to the clinic of the Josepdam Sugar Company, formally known as Nigeria Sugar Company in Bacita, Edu Local Government of Kwara State was on Wednesday gutted by fire.

A local mazagine, Bacita Post reports that efforts by the company security operatives and passers-by to quench the fire, which started at about fourteen minutes to six in the morning, proved abortive

It was reported that about some minutes into the rage of the inferno, a very loud explosion went off from the scene of the incident. The explosion whose sound reverbrated around the community was later suspected to have resulted from the fire extinguisher in the building giving-in to the intense heat of the fire.

Fire fighters, who later went to the scene of the incident, were said to have suspected a mentally-ill man to have caused the fire.

The suspect has been remanded in police custody.
