Fire guts shops in Ilorin
A complex of fourteen shops has been gutted by fire at Olorunsogo Area in Ilorin.
The cause of the fire outbreak, which occurred on Thursday evening, was attributed to an electrical power surge.
The spokesman of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said the incident happened at Abdulsalam shopping complex, along Western Reservoir Road.
He said the fire was put out by the efforts of the State Fire Service.
Adekunle said, “The Kwara State Fire Service was summoned to the incident through an exchange telephone call by one Mr. Kazeem around 20:05hrs (8:05pm).
“We arrived at the scene exactly 08:10pm and met the fire very well alighted. But due to the potential of our well experienced and specially skilled personnel in the State Fire Service, the fire was quickly put under control from further spreading to other shops within a twinkle of an eyes, before it was totally extinguished.
“Out of about fourteen shops in the burning complex, only three shops were affected as a result of tremendous performance of able firemen on ground. Men of Federal Fire Service were also present at the scene ground.
“However, the cause of the fire was suspected to be an electric spark in the wiring system of one of the affected shops, thereby caused the inferno.
He quoted the Fire Service director, Waheed Yakub to have urged the public to cultivate the habit of “playing safe” at all times.
