Fire destroys 300 rooms building, shops in Kwara

A building of 300 rooms and shops has been gutted by fire at Baboko area in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

The cause of the fire outbreak, which occurred on Thursday, was attributed to an electrical power surge.

The spokesperson for Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said the incident happened at 66 Ile Kannike comp., Baboko area, Ilorin.

He added that the fire affected 10 rooms and 2 shops before it was put out by the Fire Service, thereby preventing it from spreading to other blocks.

He said, “In a building of about 300-rooms, only 10-rooms were affected including 2-shops, due to the promptness and activeness of the able fire officers attended the incident.

“Based on the situation met at the scene ground, the cause of the fire was suspected to be an electric spark in one of the burnt rooms in the building, thereby caused the inferno.”

He quoted the Fire Service boss, Alhaji Yakub I Waheed (CFO), to have urged the “general public to be extra careful about their dealings especially during this harmattan period and always try to play safe”.
