Finidi’s role yet to be defined as NFF concludes plan to hire foreign Technical Adviser for Super Eagles

Less than a month into his appointment as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi George is having a tumultuous start at his job.

The former Enyimba handler upon his substantive appointment in May had only managed to secure one point from his first two games of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers: a 1-1 draw with South Africa and a 1-2 loss to Benin Republic.

The results mean that Nigeria Super Eagles are languishing second to the last on the table with just three points from four games, thus hanging their world cup dream in balance.

Meanwhile, the turn of poor results has brought about pressure on Finidi George and his employer, NFF.

While there has been calls from some quarters for Finidi George to be sacked, the NFF has now decided to beef up the technical department of the team with a foreign Technical Adviser.

NFF said in a statement on Thursday that it’s concluded plans to bring in an expatriate to the team’s technical crew.

“The Executive Committee resolved to employ an expatriate Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles in the coming weeks, ahead of the AFCON qualifiers and the remaining FIFA World Cup qualifying matches” the statement reads in part.

However, NFF did not state in clear terms, what position will Finidi George be holding in view of the development and what would also be the role and duty of the foreign coach it plans to appoint in the hierarchy of the technical crew.

While many waits for this to remain clear in the coming days, the Super Eagles will, while they seek redemption in their next round of World Cup qualifiers will have the AFCON 2025 qualifiers also added to their priorities when the draw is made in July.
