FG warns civil servants against age falsification, nepotism

The Federal Government has warned civil servants to stay away from age falsification, nepotism, and other uncivil acts.

FG has encouraged civil servants to embrace accountability and ethical actions.

Chairman, the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), of the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (FMSTI), Stella Igwilo, revealed that the ministry was ready to collaborate with members of the public to effect a reduction in the rate of corruption and to give room for good governance and delivery of service.

The chairman made this revelation in Abuja, the country’s capital, at sensitisation programme which was set up to enable integrity and declare war on Corruption at the Ministry.

She said, “in simple terms, corruption in civil service encompasses government officials’ behaviours and actions that involve lack of accountability and unethical behaviours. Corrupt practices include falsification of age, bribery, nepotism, embezzlement, influence peddling, abuse of one’s public office among others.

“The ministry’s management has supported the activities of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) in carrying out its mandates and would continue to partner with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) in the discharge of their mandates. Through ACTU, the Ministry’s Management will continue to interface with the members of the public to reduce the effect of corruption, by ensuring good governance for effective service delivery.”

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Monilola Udoh said: “the theme of this programme,  ‘Achieving Integrity and Zero Tolerance To Corruption in FMSTI,’ clearly underscores the fact that the ministry is committed to the total elimination of corrupt practices, hence the willingness of the ACTU of FMSTI to collaborate with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to achieve this.
