FG to invest in PPP for improved healthcare
The federal government is actively exploring Public-Private Partnership (PPP) opportunities in the healthcare sector to enhance the quality of healthcare services available to Nigerians.
Dr. Salma-Anas Ibrahim, the Special Adviser to the President on Health, made this announcement during a dinner held in her honor by the Southern Borno Stakeholders Forum in Abuja.
Dr. Salma-Anas emphasized that by leveraging the expertise and resources of the private sector, the government aims to improve access to essential healthcare services for all Nigerians.
She highlighted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” is focused on establishing an effective universal healthcare coverage system, aligning with the goals set forth in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr. Salma-Anas further noted that the President is deeply committed to addressing the concerns of women, children, and the overall health of Nigerians, which is why she was appointed as his Special Adviser.
Dr. Aminu Magashi, the Coordinator of the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), called for stronger collaboration between the Special Adviser on Health, the Office of the National Security Adviser, the biosafety agency, and the broader health sector. This collaboration, he believes, will strengthen Nigeria’s health security agenda.
Vice President Kashim Shettima praised Dr. Salma-Anas as one of the administration’s best, citing her extensive experience and exposure gained from working in countries like Yemen, Egypt, Somalia, and others.
