FG sets 16 years as minimum age for tertiary admissions
The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially established 16 years as the minimum age for admission into the country’s tertiary institutions.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made this announcement during the opening session of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) 2025 Policy Meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
“This policy decision reflects a balance between cognitive maturity and academic preparedness. 16 years is non-negotiable,” Dr. Alausa stated. He also warned that any institution found engaging in admission fraud would have its heads prosecuted.
Emphasizing the importance of compliance, he mentioned that the age requirement is mandatory, asserting that heads of institutions engaged in fraudulent admissions will face strict legal repercussions.
