FG approves recruitment of 3,927 new officers into customs
The federal government, through the Ministry of Finance, has approved the recruitment of no fewer than 3,927 officers into the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to strengthen its operations in trade facilitation and border security.
The NCS has not yet specified when the recruitment process will begin.
At the 61st quarterly meeting of the NCS Board, presided over by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Olawale Edun, in Abuja, the NCS also highlighted its exceptional performance, having generated over ₦5 trillion in revenue by November 2024. This achievement significantly contributes to the government’s revenue target.

The NCS’s revenue generation is expected to be pivotal in reaching the government’s ₦35 trillion revenue target for 2025.
Minister Edun praised the NCS for its key role in Nigeria’s economic recovery, stating, “The NCS has excelled in suppressing smuggling and fostering trade, which is essential for growth and job creation.”
The recruitment exercise aims to provide young Nigerians with opportunities to join the NCS and contribute to its mission of supporting economic growth and development. The initiative also aligns with the government’s ambitious ₦48 trillion expenditure target for 2025.
