Federal High Court soft-pedals on Nnamdi Kanu’s trial

The Federal High Court in Abuja, the country’s capital, has soft-pedaled on the conditions placed on the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

Contrary to their decision of last month, the authorities of the court have stopped the transfer of the trial to the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, at Jabi District of Abuja.

The authorities of the court have also permitted the media coverage of the charges of treasonable felony brought against the Biafra nation agitator by the Federal Government.

As at the time of filling this report, heavily armed operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, have taken control of the security situations of the court premises.

Newsmen, legal practitioners, litigants, as well as workers were allowed into the court premises after proper introduction and presentation of identity cards.

Recall that the court had last month revealed a Practice Direction which transferred the trial to CCT which was believed to be large and spacious enough to welcome the crowd that usually come to see the trial.

The Practice Direction which was also approved by the Chief Judge of the Court, Justice John Tsoho had also stopped media coverage except where expressly permitted.

It was gathered that the conditions imposed on the trial has been ignored.

It was also gathered that legal practitioners and journalists were given unhindered access to the premises of the court, roads that leading to the court were not blocked, while food vendors were also having their businesses done without molestation.

However, heavy security measures were put in place to prevent security breaches.
