Family of abducted POS operator asked to pay N50m ransom, puts properties up for sale in Lafiagi

The family of a Point-of-Sale (POS) operator popularly known as Yman, who was recently abducted, has begun selling his properties to raise the N50 million ransom demanded by his kidnappers.

Yman was kidnapped around 10 p.m. on Sunday in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State—less than 24 hours after the abduction of another prominent businessman in the area.

Sources close to the family revealed that the abductors contacted them with a demand of N50 million for Yman’s release. In response, the family has put up for sale some of his belongings, including a house, a car and a motorcycle, in a desperate effort to raise the funds.

“They’re selling everything they can. The kidnappers contacted us on Monday evening and demanded N50 million. They’ve been beating him mercilessly,” a source told The Informant247. “During each call, they force him to speak and describe his condition. He has no choice but to beg his family to sell all he owns. He says he can’t endure the torture any longer.”

The Informant247 had earlier reported that heavily armed bandits invaded Lafiagi town and kidnapped Yman.

“We didn’t expect the bandits to strike again so soon, especially since they were here just the previous midnight. We’re still recovering from that incident,” the source had told The Informant247.

“They returned around 10 p.m. on Sunday, heavily armed. Unlike the last time, there was no resistance from local hunters, and no exchange of gunfire.”

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official comment from either the Kwara State Government or the state police command.

Patigi and Edu Local Government Areas in Kwara North have been experiencing a surge in bandit attacks over the past few days, leading to multiple killings and abductions. Simultaneously, several villages in Ifelodun, Kwara South, have reported similar incidents, including the abduction of two teenage girls on Monday evening.

In Lile village, Patigi Local Government Area, where residents were killed, the bandits have reportedly demanded a N200 million levy from the community, threatening further attacks if their demands are not met.
