Ex-Oyo gov Ladoja to become new Olubadan September 26

The coronation ceremony of Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland is scheduled for September 26 at the Mapo Hall, Oja-Oba, Ibadan, according to a report by NAN.

Adeola Oloko, media aide to Ladoja, confirmed that the date was finalized after the approval of Ladoja’s nomination by Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State.

This approval followed a meeting involving the state government delegation, Ladoja, and members of the Olubadan advisory council. As of now, the state government has not released an official statement regarding this development.

Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, was nominated by the Olubadan-in-council on August 4, following the passing of the late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7.

While addressing well-wishers at his Bodija residence, Ladoja expressed surprise at his ascent to the throne. “When I heard of Kabiyesi’s (Oba Olakulehin’s) death, it was so painful to me because I told myself that I wasn’t ready. I thought he would reign for maybe five to 10 years, but the deed has been done,” he stated.

Reflecting on the journey to his new role, Ladoja remarked that it took him 31 years since his installation as Jagun Balogun on October 1, 1993, to reach this position.

He noted the passing of several influential figures who witnessed his earlier installation, including his former deputy, Alao-Akala, MKO Abiola, and Lamidi Adedibu. “It means my purpose in life has not been fully fulfilled,” he added.
