Enugu: Police probe officer over alleged sexual assault of teenager
Commissioner of Police in Enugu, Ahmed Ammani, has ordered the investigation of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
The Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe revealed this in a statement released on Saturday.
The ASP serving at the Awgu Police Division is accused of sexually assaulting a teenager in custody.
According to the statement, Ammani ordered the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation and bring up actionable findings on the allegation.
The CP said the alleged sexual assault took place on March 18, 2022, but the family of the 17-year-old detainee brought it up recently.
The commissioner further directed that the investigation be concluded within the shortest possible time.
Ammani assured that the ASP or any other person or persons found culpable would face the law.
“He assured that the case would be given the deserved attention and that the ASP or any other person or persons found culpable, would be appropriately sanctioned,’’ Ndukwe stated.
