Emir of Ilorin appoints Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki as new Chief Imam

The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has appointed Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani as the Chief Imam Fulani of Ilorin Emirate.

The appointment was announced in a statement signed by the Emir’s Personal Assistant, Dr Abdulraheem Muritala, on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki emerged successful after a selection process involving a number of Islamic scholars who contested for the revered religious position.

The new Chief Imam Fulani, aged 42, is a grandson of the eighth Chief Imam Fulani of Ilorin, Sheikh Ibrahim Dasuki Imam Fulani Agaka, and the son of the 10th Chief Imam Fulani, Sheikh Maliki bn Dasuki Agaka.

Before his appointment, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir served as the founder and proprietor of Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies, Airport, Egbejila, Ilorin.

He also led daily and weekly Jumu’ah prayers as Imam of Afsat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque, Oko Olowo, Ilorin, and was a presenter on the Al-Bisharah Islamic Foundation programme aired on Radio Kwara during the Ramadan period.

In addition, he teaches at Darul Kitab College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin.

The cleric holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Islamic Shari’ah from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt, obtained in 2014. He also earned a Diploma in Arabic Islamic Education from the Institute of Education, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.

In his remarks, the Emir prayed for a successful tenure for the new Chief Imam, asking Allah to grant him long life, good health and wisdom in leading the Muslim community in the emirate.

The monarch also prayed for continued peace, progress and prosperity in the Ilorin Emirate.
