Elkanemi Warriors are champions of 2024 President Federation Cup

It was a crowning moment for the Elkanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri as they defeated Abia Warriors 2-0 to win the President Federation Cup otherwise known as the FA Cup.

The Coach Aliyu Zubair led side went into the game as the underrated team but displayed a spirited performance that saw them outclassing their opponent in the match played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Stadium in Lagos.

The Maiduguri based side took the game to their opponent from the blast of the whistle and quickly earned admiration from fans and supporters alike due to their fantastic display of football artistry.

Elkanemi Warriors were handed an opportunity to take the lead earlier in the game as they earned a deserved penalty but Nasiru Saliu failed to convert the spot kick and threw the game open again.

And as they continue to dominate the encounter , Nasiru Saliu would eventually bring himself back to the score sheet as he perfectly taped in a cross in half hour mark.

Despite making three substitutions at the beginning of the second half, Abia Warriors failed to make a significant impact in the game,thus leaving the most part of the match to Elkanemi Warriors to control.

Just as he had earlier gave them the lead, Nasiru Saliu again in the 68th minute double the lead for his side to take the game beyond Abia Warriors.

It’s an impressive season for Elkanemi Warriors who also scored a promotion from the NNL to the elite league in Nigeria, NPFL on the heels of an incredible season.

With the result, they have also qualified for the CAF confederation cup and will represent Nigeria in the continent in the upcoming football season.

For record, Elkanemi Warriors has now won the FA Cup, Nigeria’s oldest football competition for a record third time. They won it in 1991, 1992 and now in 2024.
