Elections: NBA Ilorin branch denounces misuse of logo in controversial publication

The Ilorin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association has denounced the use of its logo in a controversial publication circulating online.

According to a statement issued by Y.O. Ahmed-Aliagan Esq., Publicity Secretary of NBA Ilorin, the publication, which accuses a presidential candidate of orchestrating a smear campaign, allegedly utilized the branch’s logo to imply its endorsement.

The spox added that following the dissemination of the publication, they have been inundated with inquiries from members and associates seeking clarification on the authenticity of the endorsement.

He further noted that while the authors of the publication did not claim affiliation with the branch, the concern caused by the use of its logo prompted the need for the rejoinder.

“We wish to clarify that the statement in question did not originate from our branch,” Ahmed-Aliagan said in the statement. “The use of our name and logo was unauthorized and does not reflect our position.”

In light of the upcoming election season, the statement emphasized the importance of conducting issue-based campaigns. It urged all candidates and supporters to refrain from actions that could further polarize the electorate.

“It is imperative that we maintain a decorous atmosphere during this election period,” Ahmed-Aliagan added. “Our branch holds the exclusive authority to use its name and logo for any official communication, and we caution against any misrepresentation.”

The statement concluded with a call for unity among members and a prayer for the emergence of capable leadership within the NBA at the national level.
