EFL Cup: Revenge as Man Utd beat Aston Villa to clinch round 16 ticket

Erik Ten Hag’s boys had to come back twice in the game to secure a 4-2 win over Aston Villa in their EFL third round match on Thursday’s night.

While the encounter was a repeat of the last weekend’s game between both sides, the red devils would eventually have the day despite playing out a goalless draw in the first and second half producing the all six goals.

United could have taken the lead in the first half when Fernandes had the ball in the net in the 18th minute but no thanks to the flag as his efforts was ruled offside.

More to an impressive outing for the Ten Hag’s boys, it was also a special night for teenager Alejandro Garnacho who came off the bench to provide two important goal assists in the game.

That Ollie Watkins had his opener cancelled by Anthony Martial within a second, the Old Trafford was thrown in to another mourning moment when Diogo Dalot scored an own goal to the dismay of many.

Things started coming back the way of the home side when Marcus Rashford hits the equalizer before the complete take over of the game was perfected when Bruno Fernandes netted the third goal in the 78th and Scott McTominay striking the fourth in stoppage time.

United would have Ganacho thanked for providing assists for their two last goals as they saw off a very determined Unai Emery’s led side.

The result, which has now sent United to the next round of the Carabao Cup was a revenge for Manchester United 3-1 loss at the park last weekend.

United will now face Burnley in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.
